Yirgacheffe is a town in the Sidamo region. Our journey since we last stocked Yirgacheffe has involved Djimmah and Sidamo. Each of these has left us thinking why it doesn't taste as good as the Yirgacheffe. Don't get me wrong each had something which made them really interesting but Yirgacheffe is just so special. Its acidic and citrusy tastes would make you think it has no place in the espresso machine, but this is something different.
At the cupping table what surprised me most about this yirg is its clarity in the cup. There is grapefruit that is just so grapefruit, but without any sourness at all. That's because there's an underlying sweetness that combats it. It's this sweetness that makes it very able in a blend but the versatility to stands well on its own. |
