Description:
In January 2007, we went on a buying trip to Guatemala, partly to visit farms that already sell to us, and to find some new people and new farms in order to bring you more great coffee. This was one of the farms that we visited, and we have had coffees from them ever since the trip.

This was the last farm that we visited in a very busy week. I was exhausted and not as exited as usual about this visit, but once we arrived the farm managed to enthuse me so much. The location is very isolated, around three quarters of an hour in a pick up truck from the nearest main road - in this case, I use the term 'main' in the loosest possible terms - and is located in the crater of the dormant volcano Tecuamburro. When you arrive it's like another world and a truly memorable place. Take a look at our photos at the link here. I was also given a chance to pick some coffee whilst there, which was an experience all of its own. The farmer, Sergio, and his wife were just lovely, lovely people and the most perfect of hosts.

A well known farm to us now, Sergio keeps in touch via email and lets us know lots thats going on with the farm. It's nice when there is a farmer/roaster relationship. This coffee is a new for this season, a micro lot from the very highest point on the farm. If you speak poor Spanish the sack reads "Parcela el Pollo" which I thought was packet of chicken but parcela can also mena small plot/area. The 'chicken plot' is situated at the very highest point of the farm which is 1770 metres above sea level. It's a mix of Bourbon and Catuai varietals, which are hand picked, fully washed and sun dried.

In the cup expect big toffee sweetness and viscosity, paired with brown sugar and a super clean finish. Lovely grape like acidity, tight but complex. A great espresso and lovely filter brewed coffee.
