Description:
As you may suspect, I get to try a lot of coffee. I guess most normal weeks I cup 5 different offerings, and drink lots more than that from our range. So when you get a chance to cup 60 of the best crops from Nicaragua in one week, its an opportunity not to be missed. Add to this that I went and cupped them in the beautiful Nicaragua instead of rainy Stafford, well you can see why I took the chance. For those who don't know I was part of the international jury for this years competition.

The standard was very high as you would expect, but this coffee stood out to me as something extremely special. Ok, let's put my neck on the line, the BEST filter/french press coffee I have ever had the pleasure to cup. For me it was the outright winner the three times I cupped it. Before I get into how good it is lets get passed the fine details. From the region of Esmeralda, the farm is 252 hectares with coffee growing in just 97 hectares of that. Its wet milled processed and sun dried on patios It came forth out of the 36 that made the cup of excellence standards, narrowly missing a special award. Are you still with me?

The cup has fantastic acidity with wonderful grapefruit hints very similar to good Ethiopian Yirgacheffe, but with deep chocolate tastes to give it a really smooth body, and fantastic mouthfeel. I looked over my cupping notes from the week for this one and all of them said one thing in the comments "WOW". I remember standing up in the discussion group after the cupping's and saying I want this coffee, it will be mine. Well it is and the reason I wanted it was to share this fantastic cup with you, so come one treat yourself to one of the finest crops (in my opinion) to come of Nicaragua in a long time. A true Cup of Excellence.
