Part of our direct trade coffee from Brazil this year. This was one of the discoveries from the trip, a real surprise and shown to us by our friend Adoedato from Terramater who is the neighbour of Paulinho, the farmer here. This is a world exclusive from the farm with us buying all the production.
This is part of a collection of family farms located in what looks like a small hamlet a few km down a valley away from the main road leading into Ibicoara. There is a collection of several houses and a small chapel. During conversation we found out that most of the people living in the houses next to Paulinho’s house were in fact relatives. The actual plantation is about 1 ½ km up a road that leads towards the base of the high Sincura mountains in the Chapada Diamantina national park and the Paraguassuzinho river which is the name of the Paraguaçu River as it originates in the Chapada Diamantina highlands before flowing 500 km to the coast. There are several members of the family that own and operate small individual farms. These are scattered around the area and each one sells their coffee separately but all the family comes together to help each other out with harvesting and processing. The installations are basic but their hard work and their attention to detail turns out great coffees.
Paulinho was an amazing host when we visited making us coffee and inviting us into his lovely home, the whole day was brilliant, and had a lasting effect in my memory and on me. Cupping the coffee blind, luckily had the same impression on me.
In the cup expect milk chocolate, along with a huge mouthfeel, whole nut bar mashed up with lychee, and amazing coffee.
