Farmers in Thirikwa planted their first coffee trees in I952. This coop has one wet mill, namely Gakuyuini. The coop is located within Ngariama Location, Gichugu Division, Kirinyaga East District on the southern slopes of Mount Kenya.
The coop is managed by an elected board of 5 members elected from 5 wards: Mukure, Wakaboro, Gituba, Gacigoini and Githiru. The coop is headed by a Secretary Manager who oversees the day to day running of the coop under the supervision of the board.
The wet mill has a membership of 1,835 farmers.
In the cup expect lemon, but not your normal lemon, it reminds me of a lemon cream puff biscuit, super bright whilst retaining good body, super acidity with an aftertaste of pear. When cupping the Kenyans this year we all thought about colours to describe them, and If it were a colour this cwould be yellow and green. I know it sounds ridiculous but try it and I am sure you will agree with me.
