2. New Additions

Determined to bring you something new and special to go with that Christmas lunch we have pulled out all the stops and can bring you eight! That’s right EIGHT new beans for you to enjoy. Some are old favourites coming back, and new beans that are very special indeed. Also a new addition is twelve month gift order for home roasters.

Bolivian Organic (ref 222), Cost: £2.95 per 250g bag

This is another periodical son returning to the Has Bean Catalogue. Those of you who have been here a while will know up until six months ago this was always in our range. A fairly popular coffee, it never sold as well as it should. A lot of this is due to it being Bolivian. It’s a region that hardly springs to mind when you think of gourmet coffee. But this is another region that has worked harder to raise there standards and this is a fine example of it. The first thing you notice is milk chocolate, and a sweet smoothness in the cup. The after taste is simply divine, smooth and rich. A great espresso coffee.

Puerto Rica Yauco Selecto AA(ref 223), Cost: £7.95 per 250g bag

This creamy, cup reminds me in many ways to Kenyan coffee’s, its smooth silky and great body. But the more you drink the more it moves from the “kenyan” profile and tastes very similar to the Jamaican blue mountain type taste with its rich full body flavour. A very special coffee that should be enjoyed on a special occasion.

Ecuador washed Galapagos Isle(ref 224), Cost: £6.95 per 250g bag

In this cup there is a light acidity, with a very light body. With great caramelly tastes and smells of spice it reminds me in many way of Kona. Only when it cools a little do you really taste the spice tones that make it distinct. Its organically grown on the isles, which was a nice surprise, as I didn’t know about this at the time of cupping. A little more than our standard coffees but that is because it’s a very special cup.

Guatemala Finca Entre Rios Organic(ref 220), Cost: £2.95 per 250g bag

Guatemala Finca Entre is grown in the district of San Augustin in eastern Guatemala. It’s a certified organically grown coffee at its best. In the cup you will find fruity smoothness combined with rich dark chocolate. With starbucks buying up so much of the good (and some not so good) Guatemalan coffee’s this is a real gem that they let slip through there net, which just has to be good news for us.

Papua New Guinea Kimel estate peaberry(ref 221), Cost: £2.95 per 250g bag

For those in the know, I spent two years trying to find a good peaberry. Well this is the third one in three months and it’s another real gem. This Plantation coffee cups cleanly, with many similarities to Indonesian coffee. It is a very lively coffee with hints of oranges, with a smooth butter taste. A very balanced cup, that excels in the French press, filter machine or vacuum pot .Best roasted light to medium to appreciate its delicateness

Kenya Wathenge Estate (ref 106), Cost: £3.10 per 250g bag

Kenya coffee is great. But some of it is special and this is one. Full berry taste with the expected red wine and grapefruit hints, if you’re not drinking this is your French press or filter machine, then you’re missing a real treat.

Java Government Estate Blawan (ref 304), Cost: £2.95 per 250g bag

This thick bodied classic Java is an old favourite of Has Bean. The problem has been that the big cafe chains have been buying all the good Java, and roasting it beyond recognition. So it’s been hard to find a good Java. Its earthy type honesty is refreshing change to the clean cups of the gourmet world. Best roasted on the darker side. Watch out for the wild mushroom earhtyness In this government estate classic

These are still available in green unroasted and will be coming back roasted soon. The Indian plantation a has gone too from the roasted catalogue.
