The Porlex Ceramic Burr Coffee Grinder is the perfect hand grinder for travel or home use (I'm just back from my travels using one).

It has an all stainless steel housing making it easy to clean and reportedly less static compared to plastic models. The conical ceramic burrs won't rust and it's easy to clean coffee oils off of them. They also stay sharper for much longer than steel burrs. The grinder can easily be adjusted from Turkish to French Press grind settings. It produces, a more uniform grind and less powder.

The hopper holds about 30g of coffee beans. Unit is 185mm tall and 49mm in diameter without handle.

Instructions and box in Japanese.

  1. Great little grinder

This is my first grinder and was looking for something to use with my Saeco Aroma and also with a Moka pot.

For £30 this is a fantastic grinder. For me this is a temporary solution as I didn't want to spend £££ on a grinder until I have upgraded from the Aroma.

To setup is dead simple. Tighten until no space and then loosen counting the amount of clicks. About 3 to 4 is good for espresso / moka pot. Any finer that this choked my machine.

This grinds easily for espresso (taking about 2 minutes to grind for a double basket). I would say that the grind quality for my current setup is more than sufficient and i'm sure it would be perfectly useable for a higher end machine.
Only drawbacks are obviously time and a bit of elbow grease required. If you are doing any more that 2 double shots a day I would look for a machine. The is a very small amount of static in the grounds. I don't really bother to clean it that often. I don't bother cleaning it after every use except for brushing the ceramic burrs occasionally (I have not bothered to take it apart yet for a thorough clean)
