Guatemala Finca Las Nubes Antigua Washed Bourbon

In the cup expect a lovely creamy mouthfeel of liquid caramel and soft milk chocolate, whilst remaining very clean with just the gentlest of grape-like acidities. Then this turns into a biscuit sweetness, which all around reminds me very much of a Rocky biscuit.

DETAILS

Las Nubes (translated as 'The Clouds') is a beautiful farm located on the slopes of the Acatenango Volcano, facing the city of Antigua. It's mostly planted with Bourbon and Caturra and in some areas it has a unique combination of both varieties mixed together.

The farm became a coffee plantation in the early 70s, and since then it has sold its coffee with the same name as the farm itself.

Shade is provided by the Gravilea tree. It works well for the coffee, providing cover whilst not competing with the coffee. When the shade needs to be cut back, the trees also provide a lot of firewood and lumber for construction on the farm. The soil is very loose, sandy, course, dark, and rich.

The farm has participated in several Cup of Excellence contests and was a finalist in 2008. Finca Las Nubes is part of the famous San Sebastian farm in Antigua, which is comprised of several smaller farms belonging to the Fallas family members. These farms include: San Sebastian, La Tacita, La Travesia, and Santa Catalina.
