The Flores Brothers - Guatemala El Bosque Amatitlan NOVEMBER 2012

For the past 6 years I have been enjoying the coffee from this farm. It was one of the first farms I got to visit that I actually bought from, and holds a special place in my heart 

Owned by a group of brothers, Julio, José, Francisco, and Mario. I probably know Francisco the best as he speaks English, and we exchange emails when we need to, but they are all lovely people and very good at what they do. 

They took over the running of the farm in 1996 during a time where coffee prices were tumbling. They took the brave decision rather than sell up to bite the bullet and raise the quality of the farm. This meant an investment of time and money at a time where people were abandoning coffee farms. This was in the hope that the coffee market would recover. 

They also built a wet mill (in the past they had sold their cherry to anyone who would buy it) which meant they could begin the process of improving the name on Finca El Bosque. 

I think they have done this. Its one of the most eagerly awaited return crops every year, and a coffee we seriously love. You also have the decaf version too which is a bourbon/Catura mix. 

But the red bourbon is the special coffee here, one I hope to see for many years to come
