October 2014 - North Tea Power: Deerhunter
Every month during 2014 we're showcasing a custom blend from one of our amazing wholesale customers, we wanted to take some time to celebrate the wonderful things they're doing with our coffees and allow everyone to taste their fantastic blend.
This month we're going to hop on a CrossCountry service (or Virgin Trains if you're lucky, maybe even TransPennine Express if you're travelling down from t'north) to Manchester to sample the delights of Deerhunter from North Tea Power.
Now Manchester is a city that I like very much for many many reasons, NTP definitely being one of them! From Piccadilly station it's only a short walk to The Northern Quarter where you'll find NTP in the Smithfield Building arcade on Tib Street, since opening in 2010 the shop run by husband and wife team Wayne and Jayne has gone from strength to strength and remains at the forefront of specialty coffee in Manchester and the UK.
While their name and logo suggest a rather large fondness for tea (and they really do love their tea!) for me their true passion shines through in their coffee, they focus a lot of time and attention on their coffee menu and constantly deliver excellent drinks, tasty tasty tasty every time! Alongside their espresso and filter they of course serve lovely food and for those of us who appreciate a beer they're blessed with a fine selection in the fridges too.
Sticking on the beer theme, some of you (like me & team Has Bean) may have been to the Independent Manchester Beer Convention (Indy Man Beer Con) over the past 2 years, so have NTP! In the inaugural year of IMBC they were there with a brew bar of filter options (I was even there to help!) then last year with an espresso machine, happy to report that they'll be there again this year helping keep the drinkers nicely fuelled with caffeine. For the third year in a row I'll be there (with the fellow beer connoisseurs of team Has Bean!) and am looking to dropping by for a caffeine break when the hops truly start to tighten their grip, hopefully I'll get to see some of you lovely people there too : )
OK so onto the blend and oof, what a blend it is! 2 naturals?! Oooooh baby...
50% Ethiopia Yirgacheffe Kochere Debo Natural
30% El Salvador Finca San Jose Washed Red Bourbon
20% Nicaragua Finca Limoncillo Natural Red Pacamara "Elegant"
In the cup this is a funky little number. Boozy and powerful through milk whilst remaining sweet and delicate as an espresso. A real all rounder.
Don't just brew this amazing coffee at home, make sure you take some time to visit NTP in Manchester! If you'd like to find out a little bit more about them clicky clicky click...
Funky, boozy, sweet, delicate.
