    There's an interestingly diverse range of coffee varieties growing on the Arrieta's farms, which balances practicality to grow and add quality in the cup. This means lots of Villa Sarchi, Caturra, Catuai as well as small amounts of Bourbon, Etiopia and Victoria-14. It also means some Kenya and some Geisha. The plants for this Geisha come from across the family’s plots – some from around the house (La Casa), some from La Isla and the majority from Manantial. The family’s honey processing always helps highlight the floral notes of geisha alongside the juicy acidity and intense sweetness which is a hallmark of this varietal in Costa Rica.

    It’s often said that Geisha doesn’t really taste like Geisha for the first few years of production. It’s been a huge pleasure to taste this coffee for the first few years of the plants maturing and watch that journey - I think we’re just seeing this coffee begin to hit its stride. Whilst it’s a little less floral than some Geishas, that note is in there and more pronounced this year than last year.     Lemon icing comes through first alongside a little nudge of grapefruit, but as it cools a black tea comes to the fore - but extra sweet, like you've dipped a digestive biscuit in it! The florals come on the finish, lingering into the aftertaste.

    Medium - mid-gap for this one, but slow it down and let it develop a bit at the end of first to make sure you don't get any underdeveloped flavours.
