SCAE Barista Skills
We’re really excited that early in 2017 we’ll be launching our SCAE Coffee Diploma System Education Program, beginning with a series of dates focussed on the Barista Skills modules. Other module series will be added as the year progresses.
The Foundation level is for people new to the coffee industry, focussing on the key skills required to dial in and brew espresso, foam and texture milk and develops basic knowledge of equipment, menu items and coffee history, terminology and principles.
Progression through the intermediate and professional levels allows candidates to gain a deeper understanding of coffee itself and build on their practical skills for workflow, milk technique and latte art, equipment care, health and safety, customer service and basic business. Sensory activities in line with the expectations of the contemporary Barista role support this training alongside lectures, and hands on coaching and training.
The Intermediate level is designed for baristas already working behind a coffee bar. The Professional level is built for students who have already achieved Intermediate certification. Our training has been developed to be accessible to all students and encompasses a wide range of learning styles, culminating in written and practical exams.
