Packaging & Bag Recycling
I think we can all agree now, that recycling is a very important part of everyday life. Resources are not infinite, and landfill gets, well...full.
We're very much aware that everything we do has an impact on this world in which we live, and we want to make impactful changes wherever and whenever we can to mitigate the negative impact we have on the environment.
We've therefore made the move away from our iconic (?!) red polymailers towards our much more sustainable recyclable cardboard mailers! Meaning that all our single-bag orders will now be shipped in cardboard rather than those polymailers.
We're super happy with this as it's been a long time coming and a lot of you have been asking for it, so thank you all for your patience while we've been working out the best solution for us!
Although we've made this change, we know there are still other things we can improve upon which we're working on, we promise! One of which is our coffee bags:
It's always something that's bugged us about coffee bags, because of the way they are made, they can not easily be recycled.
We have tried many different bags, but none keep the coffee as fresh as we would like, so rather than compromise the product, we have carried on regardless. This keeps us awake at night as sustainability is not just about buying coffee fairly and with ethics, or organic certifications, but by being sustainable in as many areas as you can and making those little changes which build up steadily to have a big impact.
We found out about this company that will recycle coffee bags, but at a cost. This cost is out of reach of most people, so we have invested in a bag recycling box at Hasbean. We get through a lot of bags so it’s a start.
But if you (home or coffee shop customers) buy coffee from us, we will pay for the recycling costs of Hasbean bags. All you have to do is get them back to us! Collect as many as you can and send them to us at the address below and we will do the rest.

Then the collected waste will undergo extrusion and pelletisation to be moulded into various recycled plastic products.
Our brown cardboard shipping boxes for larger orders are fully recyclable via regular curbside recycling or you can choose to biodegrade or compost them.
The reinforced tape we use to seal our boxes can be recycled via regular curbside recycling but it is not fully biodegradable or compostable.
The white padded envelopes we currently use for small to mid-size orders are not recyclable but we are looking into various options to replace these with something (hopefully) fully recyclable, biodegradable and compostable.
It's not perfect, but we're doing our best!
